Here are the DBs I got in my draft:
Kam Chancellor Cortland Finnegan Jordan Babineaux Javier Arenas Antonio Cromartie (DP) Alterraun Verner (BN) Before you hold your nose on those last two, they were rated the first and fourth (Peterson and Webb in between and drafted early) DBs BASED ON SCORING SETTING for the league. Incredibly, this league gives 1 pt per return yard. There were better pure DBs available (see below), but when you consider the bump from RET yards, I went with those two. Here are a few options I am considering: Antoine Winfield Kenny Phillips Kerry Rhodes Willam Moore They are rated fairly high in the Guru Draft Guide, but I have read negative reviews on all of them. I am thinking of sticking with what I have (a bit of a BYE week problem though) mainly with the RET yards I could get with Arenas and Cromartie. Hell, Cromartie might even get me OFF pts. ;-) Any analysis/suggestions definitely appreciated. Thank you. |
Interesting.
I'm in the same type of league. I drafted Peterson, Wilson, and L. Webb as starters. Then I dropped Winfield for Boykin on my bench. Think I made the right move but feel your unease. |

I like Chancellor and Babineaux a lot (he will move up quite a bit in the next iteration of my rankings).
I'm higher than most on Winfield, but he consistently produces 75-85 solo tackles a year when healthy. Obviously, age and health are an issue for him, but I prefer consistency at this position when I can find it since it's so volatile to begin with. If your league rewards heavily for return yardage, I can definitely understand the rationale of going out at grabbing Arenas and Cromartie. Job well done. |
I deferred to the Guru on this one and picked up Winfield, dropping Verner. I like Verner, but run into a BYE week problem with Babineaux. This league has a big roster, but small bench (6).
BTW, one other manager in this league gets it after studying the league scoring settings. He is loading up on return men - his entire bench is made up of six return guys (Hester, Washington, Ginn, Stephans-Howling, Logan, Amendola) besides snagging Peterson and Webb. He happened to be the only other manager to show up for the live snake draft and I think he will be my main competition. However, you never know about return yards with so many kickoff touchbacks. Still, at 1 pt per return yard I had to make decisions towards return guys that I would have normally turned elsewhere. I do have a few good OFF return guys too - Sproles, Decker, Cobb, Titus Young, Mc Cluster and those guys should actually generate some decent OFF stats too. Thanks again for your advice - 3 more drafts tomorrow, 2 with DT/DE and CB/SS IDP! |
