IDP Trade Values

Guru,

How do you go about valuing trades in IDP with offensive and defensive players?  I know this is likely very subjective to the owner, but I wanted your input.

I recently wanted to trade for Olivier Vernon.  I have Dion Jordan as a rookie pick last year, so it helps either way.  I have a bevy of WR [Jordy Nelson, AJ Green, Keenan Allen, Kenny Stills, Aaron Dobson, etc.].  I was willing to trade Dobson for Vernon along with Nick Fairley.

The owner countered with wanting my backup QB Phillip Rivers along with Dobson for Vernon and Bilal Powell.  I don't see Powell as that good of an option in a shared RB field, so obviously I value Vernon differently than this guy.

I just wanted to pick your brain a little.  I've been doing FF for 5 years and IDP for most of that, but I'm no expert.

Re: IDP Trade Values

Hi Tyler,

This is probably one of the more difficult aspects of fantasy football. I truly do approach it on a case-by-case basis. However, I almost always try and look at these type of trades through the lens of how much relative value am I gaining, if any?

I currently have Jordan ranked in the DL16-20 slot. Is his expected value going to be larger compared to your other starting DLs than the loss of relative value from giving up Rivers and Dobson.

In the end, I personally would be unwilling to give up Rivers for a defensive end as DEs are much easier than QBs to find on the waiver wire throughout the season and even as pre-draft sleepers.

I would turn down the trade.
