Barrett Ruud

I just heard that Barrett Ruud was traded to the Saints.  Any info on what his role may be on defense (i.e. every down linebacker, etc.)?  Do you think he is worth a pick up on waivers?

Scoring:
Sacks - 4.5
INTs - 8
FF - 5
Def TDs - 25
Pas Def - 2
Solos - .6
Assists - .3
Tackles Loss - 2

Thanks,

T. Watts

Re: Barrett Ruud

I agree with lamlam. Ruud has failed to beat out rookie MLBs in two consecutive seasons (Colin McCarthy is 2011 and 4th round pick Bobby Wagner this season). The Saints only traded for him because the injuries to Lofton, Hawthorne, and Chamberlain and suspensions to Vilma and Humber make them extremely thin at the linebacker position and therefore extremely desperate.

He may have some nice short term value as long as Lofton and Hawthorne are out because he may wind up being an every down linebacker there during that time in nothing more than by default. Outside of that, Ruud is waiver wire watch material judging by his play the last couple of seasons.

All in all, definitely a situation to watch closer as the regular season approaches and somebody is going to have to make the tackles in that system within the front seven.
