Angerer Status

Does anyone know about his status this week? Apparently, he had a set back last week. With bye weeks to cover, I cannot stash him if he has an issue with his knee. Would you consider cutting him for players like Riley, Kueckly, Houston or Blackburn?

Re: Angerer Status

Here are two Articles on this situation hope this helps.

1. The simple answer here is that the Colts will return to what they showed late in the preseason – Angerer and Kavell Conner in the base defense, Angerer and Jerrell Freeman in the nickel package. But I'm not sure it'll be that clean. Angerer is considered a defensive anchor, so he'll have a role on his return. However, I've been disappointed in his progress at times over the past two seasons and there's an argument that Jerrell Freeman has earned some playing time on early downs. If the Colts agree, we could see an Angerer-Freeman rotation in the base defense. In fact, I think that's very likely to happen in Angerer's first couple of weeks back. I've seen some speculation that Freeman could replace Conner as a starter and become an every-down player, but I don't see it yet. Conner has been very good in the base defense against the run and Freeman hasn't taken many practice reps at that ILB slot. We could see an Angerer-Freeman tandem in the future, but I don't think it happens soon.

2. Freeman stepped in when Pat Angerer was hurt and has racked up 22 solos and 13 assists. Despite this, it is difficult to say what will happen when Angerer returns. Either Freeman or Kavell Conner will sit or possibly they will split snaps. Either way, it is risky to hold Freeman and the rewards are not worth it because Freeman is a LB3 at best. His numbers are good enough right now to draw interest from teams in need of a linebacker. The value you get in return will depend on what other owners think of Freeman and what they think will happen when Angerer returns. I think Freeman is a much better player than Conner, but even if he does start over Conner, it doesn't mean Freeman will remain an every down player. I don't think Freeman is worth the risk, so I would advise moving him as soon as possible.

Re: Angerer Status

Why would you think that?
He was a full participant in todays (thursday) practice.

Re: Angerer Status

He played a good deal this weekend, do you think he is a good IDP starter going forward? For this week and going forward, would you rather have Angerer, Nicholas or Foote?

Re: Angerer Status

I'm interested in the Guru's response to this as well.
However, FYI, Angerer only played 22 snaps this weekend...tho he worked in the mike LB spot.
Foote is pretty steady with tackles, Nicholas not as much.  Seems Angerer has more upside (assuming he starts and gets his snaps from this week forward, which seems reasonable since they eased him in last week), but at this point Foote seems like a steady production option.

Re: Angerer Status

I'd rather have Foote. My hunch is that it will be Angerer and Freeman as the every down backers. However, it very well could be Angerer and Conner in the base with Freeman subbing in during nickel downs. Really murky situation right now. If I were a betting man though, I'd put my chips with Angerer and Freeman.
