1st year IDP

first year doing a league with IDP, we are not doing seperate drafts. I was wondering what round defensive players should start to go? should i fill out all my starting offensive slots first then go d?

Re: 1st year IDP

That's a hard question to answer because there are just so many variables involved such as the number of teams in your league, the number of IDP roster positions, and, probably most importantly the scoring of the league. In some leagues there are IDP positions, but the scoring is heavily weighted towards offensive players - in those leagues I fill ALL my offensive starter slots first.

Honestly, since I have been reading IDP Guru and using the draft guide I have found that I can even fill my offensive bench positions as well before drafting the IDP. Again, it also has to do with the makeup of your league's managers. I just find most league managers are not that knowledgeable when it comes to IDP and you can let them grab the big name IDP, draft all your OFF players, then scoop up your IDP at the end of the draft. Guaranteed there will be some very good overlooked IDP available - I just follow the IDP Guru advice and especially the draft guide along with my own research to grab them.

Of course, if you are in an established league with plenty of holdovers who know IDP, you have to modify that strategy.

My point is you have to look at a number of factors and see how the draft is going, who is left, is there a run on certain positions, what do you need, etc. and they adjust your draft accordingly. If I had to get a straight answer, though, I would say go offensive first (unless the IDP had overwhelming scoring advantage), then go IDP. Maybe save K and D/ST for last depending on size of league.

Sorry for the long-winded response - just my thoughts.

Totally agree with all of Sarisin's comments.
